PandoBetween my friends’ DJ sets and videos, and my files for clients and coworkers, I find myself sending a lot of too-large-to-email files around. Pando, a new free software/service lets you enter your email address, your recipient’s email, and then drag and drop up to 1 Gig (yup, a whole GIG) of files and folders and then just hit send.

Your files will upload to their server while you go on with your business, and your recipient will receive a plain email telling them they have files waiting with a link to download the software (Windows and Mac available). The software is unobtrusive, has no big ugly ads, and it’s not a system hog. With a decent internet connection, it downloads monster files like a champ, and voila!

What’s cool about this versus other peer-to-peer file transfers is that you don’t need to be online at the same time as the person you’re sending files to, they can download the files whenever they feel like it, and there are no worries about dropped connections, etc. It’s also way cleaner and kinder than some of the web-based file systems which make you sort through ad-filled minefields in order to retrieve a file.

Best of all? It’s free and plans to stay that way. Check it out here
